Description
Mansion Greens Community Garden’s mission is to grow community through gardening. We believe in gardening as a way to improve community relationships, foster environmental stewardship, and promote environmental awareness. The garden is more than just a place to grow fruits and vegetables, it’s a place to learn, share, and connect. The garden was established in 2012.
Two large plots (4X24) were created in 2021 as “Sharing Gardens.” Community members are welcome to harvest from them. They are planted and cared for by high school volunteers, who in turn are mentored by Mansion Greens gardeners.
Our 4,000 sq ft Edible Forest Garden was started in 2015. Here the diversity of trees, shrubs, herbs, benefical flowers, and ground covers showcases the importance of biodiversity in a self-sustaining permaculture. Edible perennial vegetables, herbs, and flowers are planted throughout to improve the health of the trees from root to fruit, create a supportive ecosystem for helpful birds and pollinators, discourage diseases and pest, create good soil and fertilizers, and provide habitat to increase biodiversity.
